John Hill, MD

EMS Medical Director

John Hill, MD is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and EMS Medical Director who practices in Northeast Ohio. Before becoming a physician, he worked in the IT field as a full stack web developer and virtualization expert. After a near-fatal motorcycle accident and his mother being diagnosed with cancer, he made a career change and earned his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University. Dr. Hill went on to complete his emergency medicine training at Cleveland Clinic Akron General and has since worked at University Hospitals, serving as the EMS Medical Director and ED Trauma Liaison at a Level 3 Trauma Center as well as medical director for many other private companies. Dr. Hill is passionate about medical education, resuscitation, and prehospital care. In his personal life, he is happily married and has three young children. He and his family enjoy soccer games, camping, hiking, and spending time on the lake.

Scott Wildenheim

EMS Instructor

Scott Wildenheim, Paramedic, is an EMS service administrator in the Greater Cleveland area. Active in EMS since the mid 1990’s, he is involved in many facets of EMS delivery in the region. In addition to his administrative duties, he also teaches advanced primary EMS education and CE, is the editor of EMS protocols for the region, and is an embedded paramedic with a bomb squad. Scott strives to deliver EMS education in a relatable, laid back, and easy to understand way. When pretending not to work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and doggos doing general life things.

Donald Spaner, MD

EMS Medical Director

Don Spaner, MD is a dual Board Certified Emergency Physician and Board Certified EMS Medical Director. He is the Chief Medical Officer of the UH EMS Institute. Don is a retired US Army Colonel, with 42 years of military service, including deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and mobilizations to Egypt, Africa, and Japan. He has been married to his wife Pam for 42 years. Don has three children, Andrew Spaner, Eric Spaner, and Haley Durdella, DO (Emergency Physician), and a wonder dog, Newton. He also has five grandkids, Lia, Ariah, Theo, Noah, and Sofie. His favorite advice is: Get the right patient to the right place at the right time for the right care. Always remember to treat our patients as if they were your own family.
